Key points of bending and flexure design for FPC FPC

FPC flexible circuit board is applied in more and more fields and products. Engineers have designed many flexible assembly products using the flexible FPC board’s bending and flexure characteristics. FPC flat cable between boards, test connection flexible flat cable and many other products also use this feature. What kind of design should be done for the areas that need to be bent and flexed during the preliminary design of the product? It is believed that many engineers in the initial design do not know much about it. Here, Cabol Technology will give you a brief introduction, so that you can design more easily and get twice the result with half the effort.

  1. When designing the product structure, we need to make clear which area on the FPC FPC FPC needs to be bent, what is the angle of bending, and what is the frequency and number of bends.
  2. In the bending and disassembling area, we should avoid designing vias. For FPC FPCs with large bending frequency and times, we must not design vias in this area. When wiring in the bending and disassembling area, we should try to design it as wide and equidistant as possible, close to the geometric center, and avoid large copper sheet as much as possible. If auxiliary copper is really needed, it should also be changed to grid state.
  3. It is better to design single-layer lines in this area, and explain to the manufacturer that the base material and insulation layer should be as thin as possible. For FPC flat wire with large bending frequency and times, the calendered copper without glue shall be used, and the copper thickness shall not exceed 18um.
  4. Although the soft FPC plate can be bent, we can’t bend it dead. The maximum possible bending radius and angle should be designed at the bending place.
