Differences between FPC flexible circuit board and PCB rigid circuit board

FPC is a kind of printed circuit board, which is called flexible circuit board in full. We call it FPC soft board. FPC generally uses PI as the base material, which can be bent and flexed at will. PCB is the so-called rigid circuit board, which is usually called the hard board. PCB generally uses FR4 as the base material, which cannot be bent or flexed. FPC flexible circuit boards are used for links that require repeated flexure and some small parts. PCB rigid circuit boards are often used in places that do not require flexure and are relatively hard.

FPC flexible circuit board is not only a circuit board that can be flexed, but also an important design method to connect into a three-dimensional circuit structure. This structure can be used with other electronic product designs to build a variety of different applications. For rigid PCB, unless the circuit is made into a three-dimensional form by means of film filling, the PCB is generally planar. Therefore, the design of electronic products should make full use of three-dimensional space, FPC FPC is a good solution. At present, the common space extension scheme of rigid PCB is to use slots and interface cards. FPC flexible PCB can be made into a similar structure as long as it is designed by switching, and it is also flexible in directional design.

FPC FPC flexible circuit board can use terminal connection to connect lines, but it can also use soft and hard combination boards to avoid these connection mechanisms. Using one piece to connect FPC, two hard boards can be connected into a group of parallel circuit systems, or can be turned into any angle to adapt to different product shape designs. A single FPC can use the layout method to configure many hard boards and connect them. This method reduces connector and terminal interference, and can improve signal quality and product reliability.
