In the field of power battery application, FPC FPC is mainly used to replace the traditional wire harness in the pack process to assist in the collection of battery pack information. Compared with the traditional power battery harness, FPC flexible circuit board has significant advantages in safety, lightweight battery pack, process flexibility and automatic production. Although the performance is superior, FPC FPC was not applied to power battery in a large scale at the beginning of import.
The FPC product import was not as expected, mainly due to the customer’s concerns about cost and reliability. As far as FPC materials are concerned, their use cost is significantly higher than that of traditional harnesses in the case of small batch use. As a new application, battery and pack manufacturers initially doubted the performance of FPC. According to Zhao Qiangao of Cabol Technology, before FPC flexible circuit boards are imported, battery manufacturers will conduct long-term tests on FPC products in the early stage, which requires in-depth cooperation from both sides, and also puts forward higher requirements for suppliers’ R&D support, manufacturing process, etc. This is also the difficulty for only a few enterprises to achieve batch application.
On the one hand, the power battery has put forward the requirements of temperature resistance and voltage resistance for FPC, so the materials used for FPC products must be high quality and durable; On the other hand, due to the timely and accurate control of battery voltage, temperature, current and other conditions, FPC for power battery needs to be customized according to the performance and shape of the power battery specifically assembled, supplemented by complex process adjustment and strict process testing. If a process has defects, the entire soft board will be discarded. As a vehicle part, the power battery has put forward very strict requirements on the durability, stability and reliability of FPC, and the high threshold has slowed the introduction of FPC in a large area to a certain extent.
In order to balance the cost factor, FPC manufacturers have developed the “FPC+traditional wire harness” matching method based on the actual situation of some power battery plants. The compromised application effect is also significant, which plays a positive role in improving the space utilization, lightweight, automation and other performance of power batteries. Although there are still some obstacles in terms of cost and reliability, the introduction environment of FPC in the field of power battery has been greatly improved under the joint promotion of power battery enterprises and FPC manufacturers.
